Ptosis [toh-sis]

My little Presley has a condition, drooping of the upper eyelid, called Ptosis. It's her Right eye. You may have noticed it in previous pictures of her. We took her down to a Pediatric Opthalmalogist this morning, and he said that she has Moderate ptosis, and wants to see her back in 8 weeks. The problem is that over time that lid can cause her other eye to compensate for it, and she could lose vision in her ptosis eye. And the weight of the lid on her eye all the time could change the shape of her eye (causing an astigmatism) so she would need glasses, or worse. He said with where she is right now, her eyes look good, and she can see, but he wants me to put an eye patch on her for a half an hour every other day, to help that eye continue to develop...
At least they make cute ones right? Gotta love the pink camo! : )

He also said at some point she will probably need surgery to shorten the muscle a bit in that eye so that she will be able to open it all the way... He made it sound like it was when [she needs surgery], not if. He will send us to SLC to do it, because they "do a great job, and they do so many more of them, it just makes more sense to refer the 3 i would do a year"

It's okay Presley, I think you are so gorgeous! Eyepatch and all!

That's no fun. But it's so great that the doctor is on top of things and it can be bettered. And yes, the eye patch is pretty cute. :)

I think she is adorable! With the eyepatch, without the eyepatch, doesn't matter, she is precious!

I found your blog on one of my friends blog *brooke*...any whooo... MY little boy *11 MOnths* just had surgery in september to correct his ptotis. He is doing amazingly well and I couldn't be more happy with the ending results. If you end up having to do the surgery I highly suggest Dr. Chang Kim from the Moran Eye Center in SLC. Amazing Doctor all around. Anyways if you have any questions or anything feel free to send me an email!
